Henk Becker has been Professor of Sociology at Utrecht University in The Netherlands. His current work involves consulting research relating to SIA for industry, and research on the theory of generations. He is author of eight books, including Social Impact Assessment (1997) and several books in Dutch on the theory of generations. He is a co-editor of What has Sociology Achieved? (1990). In addition, he has published over 100 book chapters and scientiﬁc articles in English, German, Dutch and French. He is a former President of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) and was awarded the IAIA Rose-Hulman Award in 2001. E-mail: email@example.com Frank Vanclay is a Professorial Fellow in Rural Sociology at the Tasmanian Institute of Agricultural Research at the University of Tasmania in Hobart, Australia. His position is partly funded by the Grains Research and Development Corporation. He is a frequent contributor of chapters on SIA and has been a consultant to the World Bank; the World Commission on Dams; The Netherlands Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management; the Finnish Ministry of Social Aﬀairs and Health; the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation; and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Aﬀairs. He is the 2000–2004 President of the International Rural Sociology Association and has been a Director of the International Association for Impact Assessment and Chair of its Publications Committee and Awards Committee.
