Chapter 15: Conclusions and recommendations
Governance and problem-solving into the future will require creativity. The boundaries in which resources and expertise are situated must be crossed. In order to transcend sector boundaries and harness the assets that can be applied to our most pressing concerns, policy makers and leaders of various forms must pursue collaboration. New collaborative formations that combine the strengths of representatives across sectors bring their own priorities and needs. Forging cross sector partnerships is one tremendous step in itself. But if these efforts are to become viable and reliable sources of development and innovation, it is critical to enhance their effectiveness. As these partnerships proliferate, their success varies. A number of case examples have been able to begin achieving their intended results, but much is to be learned about how to routinely create and maintain effective and strategic partnerships. If increasingly complex contexts will require cross sector collaboration, it is imperative to understand the ingredients of effective partnerships. Various considerations can contribute to understanding what it will take to understand and improve partnerships. Strategic partnerships must be applicable to urban and rural contexts. First of all, urbanization is changing the global landscape. As populations increasingly shift to cities, urban strategies become even more significant. The general needs of populations are becoming urban needs. The context of cities brings unique circumstances to take into account. Additionally, mega cities also deserve particular attention, as they contain magnified challenges and complex systems with numerous influential institutions. These cities also wield substantial global influence, affecting the wellbeing of entire nations and continents.
