Henry W. Bloch and his brother Richard (Dick) started the United Business Company, a fledgling bookkeeping and accounting operation, in their hometown of Kansas City, Missouri in 1947. The Bloch brothers had a novel idea to serve the bookkeeping and accounting needs of small to mid-size businesses. Yet in the early years, the business limped along as one client would sign on but another would leave. Persistent and driven, the brothers were not afraid of hard work. Henry was a decorated B-17 bomber navigator in World War II who had flown 31 combat missions over Germany. The challenges that he and his brother faced with this budding enterprise paled in comparison to the adversity that he fought through during the war.
