Laurel J. Delaney In my research, I have found that two significant business developments are taking place in the global economy of the 21st century. One is the explosion of women-owned businesses (Jalbert, 2000). The second is international trade (ibid.). Putting these two business developments together creates a powerful force with which to reckon. This force contributes to economic growth, development and prosperity in our world. These imperatives are producing a new business dynamic around the world (Taylor and Webber, 1996). I strongly believe the timing has never been better for businesswomen to get out of their own backyards and move from local, regional or niche-market-players into global players. It is my desire through my work to become a resource, strength and a supportive person for professional women to ensure they stand out as much-needed role models for what it takes to go forward, venture and succeed (Ericksen & Ernst & Young LLP, 1999). If a businesswoman sees that the important people in her life believe in her idea, then that person begins to believe more strongly in herself (Anna et al., 2000). I yearn for all companies to become more aware of their human capital, especially women, and to recognize their contribution to the world of business. This ensures that no (wo)man feels left out as she develops a clear sense of her own capabilities (Kuemmerle, 2002) and works towards living life on her own terms.
