This Handbook explores the current state of university-wide entrepreneurship education programs and provides a comprehensive reference guide for the planning and implementation of an entrepreneurship curriculum beyond the business school environment. A variety of authors spanning five countries and multiple disciplines discuss the opportunities and universal challenges in extending entrepreneurship education to the sciences, performing arts, social sciences, humanities, and liberal arts environments. 12 Lights, camera, action: advancing liberal arts values . . . entrepreneurially Lynnette Claire Introduction Many of the chapters in this book have focused on spreading entrepreneurship throughout a liberal arts curriculum. This chapter describes a method of teaching entrepreneurship and increasing student self-efficacy in a business course by using non-traditional methods from other disciplines. The entrepreneur job shadow and documentary project, which results in an entrepreneur film festival, could be used in both liberal arts colleges and research universities, as long as the administration embraces innovative learning methods. As a part of an introductory course in entrepreneurship, the entrepreneur job shadow and documentary project gives students an intimate experience with one entrepreneur and exposure to many others (through the film festival) to supplement what is learned in class. During the first half of a 15-week course, in addition to the job shadow and documentary project, students read about entrepreneurship, hear about entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in class, engage in opportunity recognition exercises, and start developing the skills they will need to develop ventures of their own. The entrepreneur job shadow and documentary project provides a structure for students to explore their own growing understanding of the concept of entrepreneurship and what it may be like to engage in entrepreneurship. The Entrepreneur Film Festival is the culminating event of the six-week entrepreneur job shadow and documentary project at Tacoma, Washington State, in which each student creates a 10-minute documentary of a local entrepreneur during at least eight hours of job shadowing.
