Vanessa Ratten, Léo-Paul Dana and Isabell M. Welpe Introduction The aim of this edited book was to provide a comparative view of different entrepreneurship practices taking place in Asia. The book has examined the internationalization of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as well as entrepreneurship in Asia. This vast Asian continent is a geographic area that has a diverse array of countries with different cultures and business practices. It is an important continent as almost threefifths of the world’s population live in Asia. Seven of the 10 most populous countries in the world are located in Asia (China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Japan). China and India are considered global business powerhouses and many countries in Asia such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand have experienced strong economic growth rates in the past decade. The rapid rise of many economies in Asia has been the result of globalization that has increased the importance of international business. Countries in Asia are becoming reliant on trade with other countries as trade barriers such as language, time zones and government regulations have decreased. Countries are retracting from being selfcontained and isolated to countries that are becoming more reliant on trade experienced with other countries. In addition, the increase in technology has led some countries in Asia to advance faster than others in terms of manufacturing and production.
