Chapter 7: Human rights education and the General Assembly
As one of the principal organs of the United Nations, the UN General Assembly proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948. This instrument contains the first articulation of HRE in an international instrument (Article 26). It is therefore worthwhile to analyse the work of a body that played such a key role in the ‘birth’ of HRE on the international stage. Has the General Assembly continued to be at the forefront of the UN’s efforts to promote HRE?
