Chapter 8: Human rights education and the Office of the High
The UN Charter created six principal organs. One of these is the Secretariat, which comprises a Secretary-General and a staff of approximately 40000 international civil servants. The Secretariat’s role is to carry out the day-to-day activities of the UN and service the other principal organs of the UN by administering the programmes and policies laid down by them.
