Morocco is the only country in Maghreb that does not own important reserves of fossil fuels. In 2007, the country imported no less than 97 percent of its energy needs, being the largest importer in Africa. Thus, Morocco has been pioneering in strengthening its energy security, especially taking the lead in solar and wind energy development. This study aims at demonstrating the effectiveness of implementation of integrated solar combined cycle (ISCC) for power production using concentrated solar power (CSP) technology in developing countries by addressing the development of a CSP plant located in Aïn Beni Mathar (84 km/52.5 miles to the south of the city of Oujda in the east of Morocco) which was achieved in 2010. CSP plants could efficiently replace centralized plants using fossil fuels. The Aïn Beni Mathar plant serves as an experimental demonstration project before constructing such plants on a larger scale.
