Chapter 3: Recruiting and selecting clientsprojects, students, project advisors and program administrators
Restricted access

This chapter discusses how to recruit and select suitable projects, clients and students for a student consulting program at the college level. Central to these objectives is having administrative support to provide the backbone for the program. An initial recommendation is to involve the college career development office to provide this program support. Using companies that recruit students from your college and your alumni should yield sufficient quality projects. Use of Internet advertising along with college and faculty recommendations likewise should attract qualified students. Qualified students should be in the upper quartile of their class and have demonstrated a passion for the company, industry or topic. Project advisors are most commonly selected from faculty with a background in management and strategy, but may also be selected by executives in residence, staff, alumni or friends of the college. The essential qualities needed by project advisors for success are described.
