Industry 4.0 technologies have removed many of the constraints that have prevented the linear supply chain model from moving towards an integrated non-linear configuration. With information flowing in an omnidirectional manner within the supply chain, myriad possibilities have emerged that allow businesses to reconfigure their supply chains. This chapter explores the possibilities, vision, realities, and challenges of embracing Industry 4.0 technologies into supply chain operations and suggests a way forward to ensure the embodiment of technologies would not result in sub-optimal performance. This chapter contends that the linking together of Industry 4.0 technologies to develop digital supply chains should not overlook the socialization of technology by consumers. The way forward requires a mind-set change. Supply chain entities should look toward harnessing the prowess of Industry 4.0 technologies to innovate by designing new operations processes to cater for changing consumption patterns and consumer purchasing behaviour.
