Chapter 1 of How to do Action Research Transformations (ART) introduces the concept of ART as a collaborative tool of change that creates actionable knowledge to address global issues. The method of ART implores individuals to create and distribute knowledge to their associated audience so that stakeholders can in turn proliferate change. A real world example of ART is explored with an in-depth analysis of the outcomes achieved at the Sustainable Enterprise Executive Roundtable, a partnership between USC and the Port of LA that tackled climate change. Rather than using traditional strategies to enact change, ART is shown to be a preferred alternative that engages all of us to act with expediency, leaving hierarchical systems more equal and action based in its wake.
