Social media and its many platforms have permeated both our personal and professional lives. Students, in particular, spend a large amount of time on social media, making it a great opportunity to engage them with educational content. In this chapter, we briefly introduce several popular social media platforms, share the motivation for using them as tools, and provide guidance on which social media platforms are suitable to use in courses. We highlight specific examples of how to incorporate social media into your teaching along three dimensions: 1) Communication 2) Engagement 3) Assessment. Finally, we explain potential roadblocks and concerns for educators, and conclude with a discussion of the future of social media in the classroom.
