The Chapter extrapolates certain key legislative themes characterizing the Services Directive for the purposes of exploring wider market integration and trade regulation themes (including aspects such as the quality of services and the protection of general interests like consumer and environmental protection). In analysing the policy ambitions of the directive, the Chapter reflects more widely on the challenges of positive harmonisation.
