This chapter focuses on the relationship among sources of private sector investments in Phase II research projects within the context that the current statement of the purpose of the SBIR program is to increase private sector commercialization of innovations derived from the Phase II SBIR award. By SBIR funding agencies, evidence is presented that the presence of private sector investing stakeholders improves the likelihood that a Phase II project will result in a commercialized technology.
