The drive to reduce morbidity, mortality and the costs imposed on the healthcare system not only requires substantial innovation in healthcare services, it can also require substantial institutional change. This chapter analyses change processes of health services in two health care fields: diabetes care and emergency aid. These highlight dynamic patterns and institutional change over the lifetime of the public–private sector innovation networks in service sectors (ServPPIN) innovations. The institutional analysis of change is based on insights from ‘new institutional economics’.
