Many businesses around the world are increasingly being forced by multiple stakeholders to mitigate the negative environmental and social impacts of their supply chains. Using some recent studies in the literature, this chapter elaborates a multidimensional framework for sustainable supply chain design. The chapter proposes the following definition for sustainable supply chain design: a configuration of the supply chain of a company which maximizes the long-term economic performance of the company while minimizing the negative environmental and social impacts of its supply chain.
