This chapter discusses the role of transportation in the sustainability of supply chains. It briefly reviews the concepts of sustainability and sustainable supply chains. It also provides an overview of logistics and transportation, and how they affect sustainability in supply chains. It reviews the recent literature, and identifies and discusses some of the current challenges and opportunities in developing sustainable transportation. The chapter concludes by discussing the findings, providing some managerial insights, and suggesting future research directions.
