Chapter 23: China’s urban transport policy: from car-oriented to people-oriented cities

At present, Chinese cities are entering a new period of development mode transformation, and corresponding urban transport policies are in a crucial period of transformation from car-oriented to people-oriented. First, we review the long-term car-oriented transport policy, then summarize green transport practice in Chinese cities against the background of rapid motorization, and analyze the current difficulties in urban transport sustainable development. In order to address current difficulties, this chapter prospectively study how to formulate people-oriented transport policy for Chinese cities and propose key points to the policy change and planning administration.
