Chapter 9 looks at the connections among race, class and property. Discussing W.E.B. Du Bois’s two-proletariat analysis, J. Phillip Thompson revisits the systems that have shaped and divided America’s working class. Based on Du Bois’s analysis, Thompson argues that reformers must take into account the racial divisions that run deep amongst workers.
