Psychologically healthy workplaces are inclusive. This chapter presents a framework for understanding the relationship between inclusive and psychologically healthy work environments. In environments that are both healthy and inclusive, organizational leaders promote employee well-being; value and respect employee cultures, identities and backgrounds; encourage employee voice and involvement; generate a sense of belonging and connectedness; help employees grow and learn; encourage dialogue and surfacing difficult issues; and ensure fair and equitable practices. Real-world business practices illustrate this framework and provide details on how organizations are prioritizing workplace inclusion. In addition, potential barriers in this space are acknowledged and discussed. This chapter’s concrete examples and practical strategies for overcoming challenges will be insightful for organizational leaders who are interested in cultivating healthy and inclusive workplaces through their business strategies, programs and policies.
