We highlight current and future issues related to mindfulness at work in order to guide research and development in this field, moving forward. Drawing on research, we outlined issues in the lack of clarity of definition and use of mindfulness as a construct resulting in multiple ways of measuring and conceptualising the phenomena. Secondly, we highlight issues in interventions at work including the efficacy of mindfulness training and interventions and suggest caution in adapting interventions from clinical fields to work psychology. Finally, we draw on issues related to the workplace itself as an antecedent to mindfulness at work. As the workplace is a unique environment for mindfulness research, we urge for more research into the antecedents of mindfulness at work, such as leadership and work design that create an environment for employees to be mindful. While mounting evidence is that mindfulness at work has tremendous value for individuals and organisations, we suggest that mindfulness should be researched with clarity and caution. This will ensure, by using evidenced-based judgements, we can continue to advocate for the development of mindfulness at work, and positive outcomes that we believe mindfulness offers.
