This case study shows how the chemical industry creates initiatives that contribute towards a more sustainable future by implementing green technologies. Specifically, it consists of changing the steam generation process via new-generation boilers that burn recycled wood chips instead of petrol derivatives. This is also promoting circular economy by re-using a material previously considered as waste. Instead of incurring high costs of transport and disposal of tons of wooden material, it is processed and converted into a source of energy, which is considered carbon neutral. Not only it is beneficial for the environment, but also economically and socially because it is expected to create further jobs in the area and may mean an autonomous business in the future, serving to several chemical industries in the area.
