This chapter outlines the state of the art KM and AI/analytics research used to combat fake news, alternative facts and misinformation in a world where people prefer to obtain news from their strongly barricaded filter bubbles with little if any concern about its veracity. Information and knowledge management research provides insights into how knowledge claims can be validated and the high level of trust and reciprocity in communities of like-minded members can lead to extremely effective knowledge sharing. AI and analytics can parse vast volumes of content to detect patterns in fake text and unique spread patterns of misinformation. The combination of KM and analytics provides the needed diversity to address the proliferation of fake content in a post-truth world. Future research directions that combine KM and analytics are presented within the context of fake news.
