Chapter 16: Teaching marginal revenue product using Moneyball
Restricted access

Moneyball is considered one of the most popular films to teach economics, and can be used to teach the concept and limitations of marginal revenue product theory. We outline a class project and online simulator that can be used in a variety of economics courses. Students aren't required to have any prior knowledge of baseball statistics to complete the project, and all data is freely available online. The objective of the project and simulator is to improve student understanding of the theory of marginal revenue product and to provide students an introduction to data analysis. Resources for the project are available at no cost online at http://moneyballsimulator.info
