There is hardly any university in the world that has not integrated sustainability into their policies in order to reduce environmental impacts. A sustainable university’s function is not limited only to teaching, research and addressing environmental, economic, and social issues but lies in fostering the society to take a transition to more sustainable futures. Inclusion of sustainability in the coursework is not enough. It requires the university to view sustainability as a multidimensional issue involving multiple actors in a co-creation of knowledge in their transformative journeys and allowing the space for a profound agreement and respectful disagreements among all of them. Much needs to be done to change students’ lifestyles and habits by involving them into the process of imagining sustainable futures and allowing experiential and applied learning modes. Universities are called to create safe spaces for envisioning sustainable futures in local communities and beyond without any pre-determined agenda. The starting point is engaging students in transformative journeys in changing their frames of mind towards acting upon sustainable futures. This study presents the case study of initiatives undertaken in the regional University by engaging students in the process of changing their perspectives and identifying core values in a sense making mode towards more sustainable futures.
