In this chapter, it is argued that for a variety of reasons the consulting industry is facing a digital transformation. Service virtualization, based on standardization, digitalization and interconnectivity, appears as a reasonable measure to ensure future competitiveness. Digital platforms and the associated ecosystems offer excellent opportunities to increase the traditionally bad scaling of consulting services, with potential improvements also in the reach, speed, cost, flexibility, and even quality of service provision. The chapter contributes to both, the knowledge base on digital business ecosystems and the consulting literature. It analyzes existing business models in the consulting sector and suggests additional platform-based business models not yet applied. While briefly highlighting six such models, the focus is on the most complex and disruptive scenario, the Digital Consulting Ecosystem. It combines elements of the other business models, and takes competition from the company to the network level, much as supply chains in industrial production.
