Chapter 1: Experiential learning at Babson College
Full access

This chapter introduces an approach to experiential learning that has been practiced at Babson College over several decades. The use of project advisors with student consulting teams can make a big difference in student learning. The authors wrote this book to share what they have learned with other educators and administrators who wish to establish, run and manage field-based learning using real-world consulting projects for their own students. The undergraduate Management Consulting Field Experience (MCFE) program at Babson has consistently been one of the school’s signature learning experiences and utilizes MBA students to manage undergraduate student consulting teams. In the consulting teams, students apply Babson’s Entrepreneurial Thought and Action® (ET & A™) model, which encourages them to think differently about the challenges they face in their consulting projects.
