In this introduction, we give firstly some empirical evidence related to frugal innovation (FI). We provide a very preliminary definition for helping the reader. We emphasize the properties of this type of innovation showing FI is both an innovation of transformative change and a Schumpeterian innovation. The scope of the book is pictured.
