This chapter examines women’s career development in the private banking industry of a global banking organisation which has publically advocated its support for women to achieve in high-ranking positions. Through in-depth interviews with 29 women and men employees across the ranks of the company, the authors found that improvements have been made with regards to the career development of women; for example, mentoring programmes. However, there is still some way to go for women to achieve true parity with men. The findings suggest that barriers to progression and the ‘glass ceiling’ remain although, after Simpson and Altman (2000), have arguably been relocated to the senior management levels of the company.
