Over the last few years, the concept of natural capital has developed into a key notion for influencing decision-making processes related to the environment. It seeks to raise awareness regarding the increasingly limited amount of natural resources, and also refers to the economic valuation of nature. This conceptualization of nature is nevertheless considered simplistic as it merely highlights benefits to human society. Even though natural capital is not mentioned in legal materials, the law contributes to the elaboration of tools to inform the two complementary aspects of the concept.
