This chapter describes Ukraine’s efforts to provide cultural security through a set of steps that ensure its departure from the dominance of Russian and Russian language cultural artefacts, as well as a replacement of the Soviet ideology with common European values, and countering hostile propaganda from Moscow that started during the Maidan events of 2013_14. Under current military threats from Russia and Russia-backed separatists in the east of the country, such legal instruments as the new legislation and court deliberations, inspired in particular by the national security agencies, were used as a principal tool of cultural security.
