This chapter discusses issues related to the phenomenon of the precariat, its nature and their consequences for the labour market, also pointing to its institutional sources. The authors ask whether the precariat is a new stage of development of the labour market or is rather a new form of economic predominance that is creating a culture of harm for the worker. In the theory of conflict within employment relations, the element of subordination is potentially harmful in terms of health and economics, as well as institutionally. Harmful characteristics of the precariat include labour market segmentation, structural domination by employers and weak social dialogue. Each of these elements is analysed in the chapter from a theoretical perspective.
