The purpose of this research is to evaluate geo-location technologies, and the legality of circumventing, if considered a Technical Protection Measure. The first section of the research defines and analyses what geo-location is, the technologies that constitute geo-location and the applicability to Technical Protection Measures as defined in the CDPA. The research then focuses on the potential liability for users and providers of geo-location technology, in the context of the CDPA and European directives. This research provides a valuable insight into the effectiveness of the above identified provisions and the potential impact of the service provider licence agreements.
