Inclusionary zoning/inclusionary housing (IZ/IH) is a possible local solution to the housing affordability crisis. IZ/IH expands the local or regional affordable housing supply to achieve long-term housing affordability and facilitate socioeconomic integration. This chapter introduces IZ/IH and discusses public policy. Furthermore, it discusses measuring inputs for IZ/IH and focusing on developer requirements and incentives as well as the period of affordability. Moreover, it discusses measuring outcomes for IZ/IH and differentiating beneficiaries, the housing stock and communities. The chapter concludes with future challenges for IZ/IH policies.
