The experience and expression of sadness in organizations has many antecedents and consequences. The objective in this chapter is to explore several key aspects of sadness in organizations in terms of how individual sadness occurs, how the experience of sadness affects individual and organizational outcomes, and how the expression of sadness by individuals affects the social organizational setting. In knowing more about sadness, managers can learn what actions can best support others experiencing sadness in the workplace, leading to better organizational outcomes.
