Corruption is one of the major obstacles to economic development in Bangladesh. This chapter critically discusses corruption in the financial sector in Bangladesh. Using a case study (the Hallmark Group), it describes how the financial sector continuously fails to seriously confront corruption. Most importantly, the findings show that the government should develop an effective deterrence system (i.e., good corporate governance and stringent enforcement) without which the menace of corruption can never be controlled in the financial sector. The chapter also offers a possible policy agenda for policy makers to mitigate corruption. _
