The mix of people with whom tourists interact is diverse. Not only are there service providers and experience co-creators, but it is important to recognise the role of other tourists and the broader host community in influencing the satisfaction and the shape of tourists’ interaction episodes. The chapter reviews some foundational ideas in social interaction, including the importance of understanding non-verbal communication skills and cross-cultural signs and values in affecting how the interacting parties perceive one another. The chapter is wide-ranging and covers the possibilities for further research on co-creation and the appreciation of the other in tourist settings.
