The opportunity to share your ideas with a wider audience is one of the most rewarding parts of being an academic. Finding your work side by side with leading scholars in the field, and being part of a wider debate is very much part of this. However, while getting published is considerably easier than coming up with genuinely new ideas, the task brings with it its own challenges; some, but not all, are due to the expansion of the business school ecosystem, with increasing numbers of schools raising their requirements as to where and how much scholars should publish. Most quality journals reject the overwhelming majority of submissions. Hence, publishing in leading journals has become increasingly competitive. This short review seeks to provide some insights to maximize your chances of success.

This chapter considers the impact on human resource management (HRM) of the major socio-political, economic, and security-related developments that have taken place in the Middle East and which are still unfolding. Particular attention is paid to the dominance of the Arab culture and of Islam in the region, whereby HRM systems are strongly governed by these principles. The authors contend that due to significant differences between the Middle East and other parts of the world (the ‘West’, in particular), foreign elements of management tend to be, at best, not conducive to the development of sound HRM practices in the region. They also caution that apparent similarities across the region are masking deep-set differences between nations.

This chapter focuses on exploring career management of IT professionals through the lens of IT professionals and IT organizations. Challenges at both individual and organizational levels are discussed. The discussions are set in the context of a highly volatile IT industry in India. Organizations are facing high costs in acquiring and retaining IT professionals due to high mobility of these professionals. IT professionals, on the other hand, are experiencing higher levels of work exhaustion, leading to reduced productivity and effectiveness. As IT organizations are highly knowledge driven, it is essential that they effectively manage their technical resources. Considering the significance of the IT industry in the socio-economic landscape of India, exploring ways for organizations to be more effective and profitable is critical. Implications for management of IT professionals is discussed and possible dimensions for further research are identified.
