This chapter addresses psychologically healthy corporate health and well-being programs; specifically, the background, purpose, definitions, challenges, initiatives and favorable outcomes resulting in improvements in the health, health care costs, performance and productivity of employees. Specific case study examples are highlighted to demonstrate real-world application and emphasize key points. This chapter concludes with some considerations for organizations and managers interested in designing psychologically healthy workplace initiatives. This chapter builds upon the content from the previous chapters. The first section indicates why this topic is becoming increasingly important, the background, purpose and definitions of a psychologically healthy workplace, who is interested in it, examples of workplace challenges, and the introduction of positive psychology in the workplace. The second section focuses on the framework and design of psychologically healthy workplaces. Finally, the third section provides examples of initiatives delivered by organizations that have been effective in improving the physical and psychological well-being of their employees. Some organizational initiatives that have been shown to be successful to increase individual resources as contributors to a psychologically healthy workplace include resilience, psychological capital, training experiences and mindfulness.
