Stephen L. Vargo

In 1992, after having sold my entrepreneurial business, I returned to school to obtain the Ph.D. that I had not finished (ABD in social psychology and human ecology) years prior, following the death of my major professor. Given that my practical expertise was in marketing and promotion and my business endeavors (most recently, in hospitality) were typically classified in terms of service, my intended focus was services marketing. Naively, without researching universities, business schools or marketing departments, I simply applied to the local university, the one I had attended previously - the University of Oklahoma (OU). I was accepted and, several years later, that naive decision proved to be fortuitous.
