Chapter 11: Towards a new type of business school
An effective transformation of business schools depends on the ability to create a new type of school with a broader responsibility to society. We will follow the first two steps of the process of engagement suggested in Chapter 9, namely: 1. Identification of future requirements. 2. Review of current situation in view of obstacles. The concrete actions described in Chapter 10 focused on developing a new breed of faculty, and provide some examples of how full-scale transformation may be initiated at school level. This may go some way towards establishing a new type of business school – but ultimately we require a process of active engagement with the wider community of management education to come up with ideas, suggestions, to create prototypes and test alternative options in various settings.
