Chapter 1: Value chain restructuring in the film industry: the case of the independent feature film sector
AbstractThis chapter explores the impact of the internet, digital technology and social media on the independent film industry’s existing value chain. It specifically delves into how, and in what ways the sector is being restructured as a result of these disruptive elements. The chapter reviews the author’s practitioner knowledge and previously published research, exploring the traditional film value chain model, current value chain restructuring, followed by further examination of digital distribution models. Other creative industries can potentially learn from how the independent film sector is reacting to the above challenge of value chain restructuring.
