People have diametrically opposed opinions about blockchain, just as they do about Bitcoin. Blockchain was the innovation that made Bitcoin work as electronic currency (Dwyer 2015). Blockchains are much more prosaic than Bitcoin, simply being databases with a particular structure. That structure makes it possible to resolve multiple copies to consensus about a single chain being the correct one.
