Chapter 9 identifies the UK GIs which are currently registered in the EU. It looks at the impact of Brexit on the protection of British GIs. It looks at the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 (UK) and the GI arrangements in the Withdrawal Agreement between the EU and UK. It surveys the proposed UK GI arrangements post-Brexit, in the event of no agreement with the EU. The chapter looks at EU arrangements concerning the continued protection in the UK of EU GIs, and the exhaustion of rights. The chapter looks at future UK obligations in relation to GIs including the extension by the EU of protection to non-agricultural products, such as clothes and leatherware.
