Chapter 10: Talent Management and the Global Learning Organization
Dennis Briscoe The quality of a ﬁrm’s talent is central to its ability to learn. The eﬀective management of that talent is directly linked to the organizational learning that is so necessary in today’s hyper-competitive global economy. This chapter addresses the nature of that linkage, ﬁrst deﬁning talent and ‘talent management’ and ‘organizational learning’ in the global environment and then describing how these concepts are so intricately connected, relying closely on each other. The success of these linkages goes a long way toward determining the global enterprise’s competitive advantage and economic success. TALENT MANAGEMENT—TERMINOLOGY AND DEFINITION Reference to ‘talent management’ terminology and concept can be found today in many locations. The following quotes provide a short sample of the diversity of these references: It’s no longer what you own or build; success is hinged to the resources and talent you can access.
