Educational Challenges for the Future
Chapter 6: Human rights education and the Economic and Social Council
With this self-described broad mandate, one would expect that the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) would have a role to play in the promotion of HRE by, and within, the UN. This chapter analyses the work of ECOSOC relating to HRE with the aim of determining the extent to which this organ contributes to the UN’s overall HRE efforts. Unfortunately, it is a relatively short chapter since there is little that ECOSOC has done over the past decade to promote HRE or coordinate the UN’s HRE activities.
