E. Roy Weintraub was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1943 and graduated with an AB in mathematics from Swarthmore College in 1964, before obtaining both an MS and a PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968 and 1969 respectively. Professor Weintraub taught economics at Rutgers College, The State University of New Jersey between 1968 and 1970, and then moved to Duke University, where he has remained ever since, currently serving as Professor of Economics. Professor Weintraub’s research interests are life writing and the history of economics, historiography of economics, and the history of the mathematization of economics. His most-cited articles in chronological order include ‘“Uncertainty” and the Keynesian Revolution’, History of Political Economy (1975), ‘The Microfoundations of Macroeconomics: A Critical Survey’, Journal of Economic Literature (1977), ‘On the Existence of a Competitive Equilibrium: 1930–1954’, Journal of Economic Literature (1983), ‘Axiomatisch Mißverständnis’, Economic Journal (1998), and ‘Methodology Doesn’t Matter, but the History of Economic Thought Might’, Scandinavian Journal of Economics (1989).
