The Chapter provides an introduction to the Services Directive (Directive 2006/123), setting out certain key far-reaching consequences of the legislative instrument for the internal market, for the EU's regulatory archetype and for the EU's broader regulatory authority in the development of global trade standards. The Chapter also provides an introduction to the overall structure and methodology adopted in the book, outlining the rationale and significance of the multidimensional analysis adopted throughout the study that combines a tripartite regulatory, constitutional and policy assessment of the directive.
