Honourable Sarah Kwesiga, the Speaker of the National Parliament of Uganda and a friend of the Sentongo family, has known the family for many years. Mr Charles Sentongo is the current head of the family. One of his sons, Mr George Sentongo, works as an assistant clerk in the parliament. George invited Sarah to attend the graduation ceremony of his son. In addition, he asked her to use this opportunity to convince his father, Charles, to devote more time to the business in order to safeguard the future of both the business and the family. Sarah is reflecting on what to say to Charles. As a local councillor for the last seven years, Mr Charles Sentongo has become more involved in politics, leaving him less time for his family’s business. He has been the anchor of this business that he built over the years through his numerous contacts not only in Iganga town but also all over Uganda. It is these contacts that had enabled him and other family members to grow not only their core family business but also the other enterprises they started.
